María del Mar Arévalo, a member of the People's Party (PP), is one of the members of the recently formed Canary Islands Council for the Defense of Competition, appointed by the Canary Islands Government at the suggestion of the Minister of Economy, Industry, Trade, and the Self-Employed, Manuel Domínguez. She is a legal professional specializing in civil and criminal law, with experience as a practicing attorney and as a property manager. Her profile combines knowledge of the legal framework with the management of private legal relationships, which can provide useful insight in the supervision of contractual practices, unfair terms, or market structures that affect consumers and small economic operators.

On the Council, her role will be key to ensuring that the body's decisions are legally sound. María del Mar Arévalo Araya has had a distinguished career in both politics and law in the Canary Islands. In politics, Arévalo Araya has held various important positions. She served as a councilor and spokesperson for the Popular Party in the Agüimes City Council for three terms. She was subsequently appointed Director General for the Protection of Children and Families for the Government of the Canary Islands in the 2011th legislature. She also served as a member of the Congress of Deputies in the XNUMXth legislature. In XNUMX, she assumed the position of Minister of Environment and Emergencies for the Cabildo of Gran Canaria, where she led initiatives such as the presentation of the Gran Canaria Territorial Island Emergency Plan (PEIN).
