The PSOE (Spanish Socialist Workers' Party) of San Bartolomé de Tirajana will once again be present at the Maspalomas Pride parade, held this Saturday, May 10th, as part of its commitment to and support for the LGBTI community. It will do so at a momentous time, such as the present, in which the rise and impact of far-right movements challenge and threaten the achievements of our society.
“The pride in our diversity once again fills the streets of Maspalomas with color, a space of freedom and respect that has established itself as an undisputed benchmark for LGBTI tourism worldwide. We, the Socialists of San Bartolomé de Tirajana, can boast of having been part of the progress and relevance of this group, starting with Darío Jaén Rivero, for example, at the very birth of this initiative. Maspalomas Pride is joy and celebration, but also a significant moment for the vindication and defense of freedoms,” said Irasema Hernández, Island Secretary for Diversity and LGBTI Policies of the PSOE (Spanish Socialist Workers' Party) of Gran Canaria.
Carlos Álamo, general secretary of the PSOE (Spanish Socialist Workers' Party) in San Bartolomé de Tirajana, emphasized the need to defend the group's progress. "We are living in a moment of enormous responsibility and we cannot take a step back in the face of the threat posed by the advance of the right and the extreme right in our society. We see with concern how these extremist movements are gaining ground and hardening their message against rights we believed to be consolidated and are now in danger. This cannot be allowed to permeate our society," stated the Councilor for Tourism of the Gran Canaria Island Council.
“We, the PSOE (Spanish Socialist Workers' Party) of San Bartolomé de Tirajana, will once again be at the head of the demonstration, proudly carrying our banner for diversity. And, of course, we want our members and supporters to join us, to walk with us, to wear the commemorative red t-shirt, and to feel the rhythm of the batucada, the celebration, and the demands,” Irasema Hernández concluded, before adding: “We will meet at 15:50 p.m. at the Riu Palace Maspalomas Hotel, from where this wave of respect, love, and rights will begin.”
