The Construction Commission of the Church of the Holy Trinity in El Tablero was awarded the Honorary Vara del Romero (Romero's Wand of Honor) at the opening ceremony of the Patron Saint Festivities in honor of the Holy Trinity. With this recognition, the people and the Department of Festivities and Events of the San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council paid tribute "to those who promoted, 25 years ago, the construction of the church that has become the spiritual and social heart of El Tablero," highlighted Councilor Yilenia Vega.

The moving ceremony was held in the neighborhood's public square, attended by municipal authorities, church representatives, and a crowd of residents. The presentation of the award, by the Mayor of San Bartolomé de Tirajana, Marco Aurelio Pérez, and the Councilor for Celebrations and Events, Yilenia Vega, marked the beginning of the festivities, which will take place from May 8 to 18, with a program full of community, cultural, and religious activities.
The names of those honored, many of whom were present on stage, resonate strongly in the neighborhood's collective memory. Among them are the current parish priest, Pedro Luis Martínez Rodríguez; the project architect, Alejandro Jesús García Medina; the secretary and auditor, José Antonio Sánchez Jiménez; and residents such as Teresita Vega Sarmiento, Trinidad Ravelo Ramírez, Diego Vega Santana, Emilia Santana Ponce, Mercedes Romano Santana, José Sarmiento Lorenzo, and Francisca Castellano, who received the recognition on behalf of an entire generation committed to the progress of El Tablero.

The opening speech, which was conducted through video interviews, dedicated a heartfelt tribute to those who are no longer physically present but left an indelible mark: Rufino León Mejías, Eulogio Romano Segura, Carmelo Pérez Rodríguez, Francisco Vega Vega, and the builder Francisco Santana, whose families were also represented.
The tribute also served as a reminder of the history of the church, inaugurated on December 6, 2000, after seven intense years of planning, design, and construction. The project was driven by the then-parish priest Tirso Castrillo Amor, theologian Carmelo Pérez Rodríguez, and a committee of residents who opted for a modern, functional church steeped in spiritual symbolism. Architect García Medina designed a church with a triangular structure, a bird-shaped roof, and spaces designed for contemplation, celebration, and fellowship, reflecting the identity of the town and its faith.
The event also reviewed the parish's historical evolution, from its creation in 1943 and the celebration of Masses in schools and warehouses, to the construction of the old church in the 60s. With nearly 8.000 registered inhabitants, El Tablero is today the municipality's second-largest population center, and its parish center remains its great social, architectural, and spiritual center.

The recognition of the Works Commission also became an invitation to look to the future: to recover the spirit of solidarity of those years, to get involved in the maintenance and improvement of the building, and to strengthen the ties of a community that, 25 years ago, demonstrated that shared dreams do come true.
