The alleged ringleader promised easy money to residents of southeastern Gran Canaria in exchange for watching videos and clicking on links.
Promising to double your wealth by watching videos from the comfort of your couch sounds like a joke... except when they do it from a platform, complete with microphone, in front of more than 900 people. That's how the woman arrested for leading an alleged pyramid scheme that left dozens affected in Gran Canaria, mainly in Santa Lucía de Tirajana, operated.
The arrested woman is accused of running a network operating under the umbrella of Creators Alliance, a supposed digital marketing platform. The hook was as basic as it was effective: "Make money by sponsoring videos and bringing in more people," but first, of course, you invest.
Just like we announced a few weeks ago in Maspalomas24hThe network primarily recruited young people with promises of quick income and becoming successful micro-influencers. Contributions were made in cryptocurrency and ended up in virtual wallets controlled by the masterminds of the scheme. When the flow of new victims slowed, the system collapsed, and with it, the "partners'" money.
The operation, dubbed "Morghulis" by the Civil Guard, was launched following a series of complaints at the Vecindario Civil Guard Main Post. The investigation revealed that a large proportion of the victims were residents of Santa Lucía, a detail that reinforces the idea that the recruitment was concentrated in that area.
The organization's meetings included mass presentations at hotels in Las Palmas, with a display worthy of a motivational seminar: lights, promises of financial freedom, and TikTok videos as proof that "you too can make a living from this." What they didn't tell you is that you could also end up on the scam list.
How can you avoid falling for these types of scams? The Civil Guard reminds us that if something sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Be wary of any offer that promises large financial benefits in a short time and with no effort, especially if it requires you to put up money or "invite" others to win. Always be sure to verify the legality of the platforms and companies to which you provide your information or money.
