The young Canarian goalkeeper, just 13 years old, will join the txuri-urdin youth team after shining at CD Maspalomas and turning down offers from other Gran Canarian teams. He is currently competing in the final phase of the Spanish Championship with the Canary Islands UXNUMX team.

Rubén Matos, one of the most promising young players in Canary Islands youth football, has decided his future: he will play for Real Sociedad. The 13-year-old goalkeeper, who plays for CD Maspalomas, will join the San Sebastian club's youth team next season.

The deal represents a significant boost to the island's youth talent acquisition. However, Real's commitment, reinforced by its three-year agreement with Maspalomas, has weighed more heavily in the balance.

Txuri-urdin radar from 2023

Matos was spotted by Real Sociedad's scouting department two seasons ago, thanks to this partnership with the club from the south of Gran Canaria. In 2023, he already wore the blue and white jersey in the prestigious Liga Promises, where he shared a dressing room with the sons of two club legends: Xabi Prieto and Mikel Aranburu.

Since then, his connection with Zubieta has been constant: he has trained with the youth teams during preseason, participated in international tournaments such as the Surf Cup, and has maintained close technical support, which has now culminated in his official signing.

Projection and personality

Those who have followed his development highlight his maturity under the sticks, his agility, cat-like reflexes, and positioning that is unmatched for his age. He is currently in Madrid competing with the Canary Islands U19 team in the final phase of the Spanish Championship, where he is competing alongside teams from Navarra, Galicia, and Asturias.

Canary Islands, a hotbed of talent

This move reinforces the Canary Islands' role as a strategic training ground for clubs on the peninsula. Real Sociedad, with one of the best youth football teams in the country, is adding a new talent to its future project.
