Gran Canaria is preparing to welcome the 2025-2026 winter with an ambitious rollout of air routes that strengthen its position as a strategic hub for European tourism. Since October, leading airlines such as Norwegian, AirBaltic, EasyJet, Binter, and Ryanair have been investing in the island with new connections, operational bases, and frequencies that improve connectivity with Europe and the Iberian Peninsula.
Norwegian opens base and increases routes from Northern Europe
Norwegian airline Norwegian inaugurated a permanent base at Gran Canaria Airport in October, deploying three aircraft and operating 19 routes to nine key destinations in Northern Europe, including Oslo, Bergen, Copenhagen, and Stockholm. The increase in capacity compared to the previous winter exceeds 9%, consolidating Gran Canaria as a key hub for Scandinavian tourism.
AirBaltic launches 10 new routes and its first base outside the Baltics
Another major development is the arrival of airBaltic, which is establishing its first operational base outside the Baltic in Gran Canaria. Starting in October, it will operate 10 new direct routes with 17 weekly flights to destinations such as Tallinn, Vilnius, Helsinki, Oslo, Stockholm, and Copenhagen, reinforcing the multilingual and international profile of winter tourism.
EasyJet: New flights from Edinburgh, Liverpool, and London Southend
British airline EasyJet is also joining the winter offensive. Starting in October and November 2025, it will launch new routes from:
Liverpool: Mondays and Fridays, from October 27.
Edinburgh: Saturdays, from December 7.
London Southend: Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays, from 30 March 2026.
Milan Linate: Saturdays, from November 1st.
With this expansion, the airline significantly expands its coverage of the British market, one of the most loyal to the island.
Return to Germany: Ryanair resumes Frankfurt Hahn
Since October, Irish airline Ryanair has resumed its direct route between Frankfurt Hahn and Gran Canaria, which had been suspended since 2019. The return is due to sustained growth in German demand, a key market during the off-season.
Binter strengthens ties with the Peninsula
The Canary Islands-based airline Binter continues its expansion in mainland Spain. Since October, it has launched or increased its flights to:
Córdoba: two weekly flights (Tuesdays and Saturdays).
Jerez de la Frontera: up to three weekly flights from Gran Canaria and Tenerife.
This increase is a response to both tourist interest and the growing mobility of Canarian residents on the peninsula.
The arrival of new operational bases, the opening of new routes, and the increase in frequencies represent a historic growth in Gran Canaria's winter air connectivity. Island institutions and the tourism sector celebrate this increase in seats as a guarantee of economic stability, deseasonalization, and employment during the traditionally weaker months.
With more than 50 new weekly frequencies confirmed, Gran Canaria is not only consolidating its position as the "island of eternal spring," but also as an island of infinite connectivity.
