The works will be carried out during Sunday night, will affect the northbound section and are part of a provisional plan to ease traffic congestion on the GC-1 as it passes through Telde.
In addition, on Sunday afternoon, barriers will begin to be installed to close the current exit at the southern Las Terrazas roundabout toward Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, next to the BP gas station. This exit to the highway heading toward the capital will be closed to give priority to those traveling on the new fourth complementary lane that will be installed on the GC-1 and avoid traffic jams on this section. Thus, drivers leaving the shopping center and wishing to travel toward Las Palmas will have to use the northern roundabout, located next to Jinámar, to directly access the GC-1 toward the city. Those traveling south or toward Telde will continue to use the current southern roundabout, next to the gas station.
The Department of Public Works and Infrastructure, Architecture and Housing of the Gran Canaria Island Council, headed by Augusto Hidalgo, will launch this Sunday evening the first action agreed upon by the inter-administrative commission to improve traffic flow on the GC-1 motorway as it passes through Telde. This intervention will involve converting the current bus lane, which runs parallel to the Las Terrazas Shopping Center northbound, into a fourth lane, complementing the three existing lanes on the main road.
The work, which will take place overnight, consists of painting new road markings and replacing signage on a section from the La Pardilla industrial estate to the north exit of Las Terrazas, next to Jinámar.
These provisional measures are being implemented with paint and signage to allow for rapid implementation and eventual reversal if they fail to meet their objective. They are also part of a plan of immediate action that will be complemented in June with a second intervention to the south, in the area around La Pardilla and Makro.
