An attempted robbery with a knife against a taxi driver near Gran Canaria Airport has ended with the death of the alleged assailant after being shot by National Police officers.

This Saturday, May 17, 2025, at approximately 16:50 p.m., National Police officers were forced to use their service weapons after being attacked by an individual who had allegedly attempted to violently rob a taxi driver near Gran Canaria Airport.

 

The man, armed with a knife, lunged at the officers during their intervention, prompting them to repel the attack with gunfire. The airport's emergency services and the Canary Islands Health Service were immediately activated and attempted to resuscitate him without success. He was eventually confirmed dead at the scene.

 

At this time, National Police officers, including officers from the Judicial Police, the Forensic Police Brigade, and the Homicide Unit, remain in the area conducting the necessary investigations. The judicial commission has also been activated. The investigation is ongoing to clarify all the details of the incident.
