The new political party led by Teodoro Sosa and Óscar Hernández is called Primero Canarias Municipalistas (First Canary Municipalists). The party was officially launched on May 19, 2025, at the Infecar Conference Center in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

This party emerged as an alternative to the progressive nationalism represented by Nueva Canarias (NC), after years of internal tensions and disagreements with the leadership led by Román Rodríguez. The split was formalized in January 2025, when Sosa, from the Rural Nationalist Bloc (BNR), broke the alliance with NC. Initially, the name "Canary Islands Municipalist Unity" was proposed, but it was rejected by the Ministry of the Interior for overlapping with an existing brand.

Primero Canarias Municipalistas has the support of more than twenty councilors who have left NC in seven municipalities in Gran Canaria, including the mayors of Gáldar and Agüimes, Teodoro Sosa and Óscar Hernández, respectively. The new political party defines itself as municipalist, progressive, and nationalist, and aims to consolidate its structure ahead of the 2027 elections.
