The SPAR Gran Canaria supermarket chain remains committed to initiatives that contribute to the well-being of some of the most vulnerable groups in Canarian society. In line with this philosophy, the chain has renewed its collaboration agreement with the Fundación Canaria Pequeño Valiente (Little Valiente Canary Foundation), thus continuing its financial support to meet the food needs of the families staying at the Casa-Hogar.
SPAR Gran Canaria also strengthens its commitment to the Foundation by subsidizing the maintenance costs of the kitchen at the nursing home, which opened in March 2023 in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. This home was created to provide free and decent accommodation to families of children undergoing cancer treatment who relocate from other islands to receive treatment at the Maternal and Child Hospital.
Among the activities SPAR carries out with the association are healthy cooking workshops conducted with a group of young people from Pequeño Valiente, led by a dietitian, in which the chain collaborates through wallet cards.
This activity is carried out in several phases, including a visit to a SPAR store, where young people learn how to select products appropriately and how to interpret nutritional labels, with the aim of promoting conscious and informed shopping. Participants then prepare their meals in the Foundation's kitchen, using selected products and preparing snacks with high nutritional value. This initiative fosters self-sufficiency through active learning among participants, while also promoting healthy eating.
In addition, the chain participated this week in the "Eat Adventures" storytelling workshop, an initiative aimed at children admitted to the Oncohematology ward and those visiting the Day Hospital. Through a story, children are taught about different foods and their benefits, with the aim of raising awareness about nutrition. By providing fresh fruit for attendees, SPAR Gran Canaria demonstrated its commitment to teaching healthy lifestyle habits.
