The series will be broadcast from May 23 on La 1 of Televisión Española, at 20:55 p.m. Canary Islands time.

Weiss & Morales, the new series co-produced by RTVE and the German public broadcaster ZDF, begins airing on May 23 on Televisión Española's La 1 channel. This production, filmed entirely in Gran Canaria and La Gomera, consolidates the islands as a strategic destination for the international audiovisual industry.

Starring Miguel Ángel Silvestre and Katia Fellin, Weiss & Morales It's a four-part, 90-minute crime thriller. The plot follows two agents from opposing cultures who must collaborate to solve crimes in an environment where German and Canarian citizens coexist.

Filming took place over three months in various locations across Gran Canaria, including Gáldar, Agaete, Firgas, Teror, Santa Brígida, Agüimes, Arucas, and Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. This choice of locations not only lends authenticity to the narrative but also highlights the rich landscape and culture of Gran Canaria as a natural film location.

The series, presented at the Málaga Film Festival and Series Manía last March, with success in international forums such as MIPTV, features a narrative approach that eschews traditional noir to embrace a warmer, more relatable visual style, highlighting the contrasts and connections between the two cultures represented by its protagonists.

Filmed entirely in Gran Canaria and La Gomera, the series is the result of a collaborative effort between RTVE, ZDF, Portocabo, Nadcon, and ZDF Studios, with a script written by Carlota Dans, Nina Hernández, and Ron Markus.

Booming sector

So far in 2025, Gran Canaria has hosted a total of 16 audiovisual productions, including both national and international feature films and series. Among the projects already completed are the Danish feature film Hashtag, by Nordisk Films; the French drama My Love, by Les Films du Kiosque; and the second season of the German series Oderbruch, produced by Syrreal Entertainment.

Five national feature films are currently being filmed on the island, one international production, and a Spanish series have confirmed their arrival to the island to shoot in the coming months. Among them is the feature film "The Wizard of Oz," from El Sueño Eterno Pictures.

On the national scene, the island has been the set for titles such as La cena (La Terraza Films), Cataratas, Mis ojos, Only Girls, and Tal vez (all from Inefable Productions), as well as La cosa en la niebla (Jugoplastika), A fuego lento (Morena Films), Looking for Michael (Rodolfo Films), and Monitor (Nostromo Pictures). Four feature films are currently in progress, and another will begin filming next week.

Furthermore, agreements are being finalized for new productions at the Gran Canaria Platós, also managed by SPEGC, which strengthens the technical infrastructure available on the island.

The SPEGC reaffirms its commitment to the development of the audiovisual sector in Gran Canaria, offering institutional support and facilitating the necessary conditions for productions to find a favorable environment on the island.
