The economic capital of the Canary Islands is preparing to host one of the most influential events on the national tourism calendar on June 12, 2025: the Great Hotel & Hospitality Design Debate, organized by Grupo Vía at the iconic Lopesan Costa Meloneras hotel. This event, established as a benchmark forum for industry professionals, will address the structural challenges and significant opportunities of tourism through two panel discussions bringing together some of the leading experts in hotel management, architecture, interior design, and strategic development.
The day will open with an in-depth reflection on the present and future of the hotel sector. Sustainability, technological innovation, adaptation to climate change, attracting talent, and the new demands of post-pandemic tourists will be some of the topics covered in this first roundtable discussion. The second part of the event will focus on hotel design as a generator of added value. Architects, designers, and developers will discuss how emotional architecture, sensorial interior design, and the integration of the environment are transforming tourist spaces into unique experiences that build traveler loyalty.
Confirmed speakers include leading figures such as José María Mañaricua, president of the Federation of Hospitality and Tourism Entrepreneurs of Las Palmas (FEHT) and general manager of Gloria Thalasso & Hotels; Cristian Suárez Alvarado, general manager of Cordial Hotels & Resorts; Jose Alba, representing Lopesan Hotel Group; Juan Francisco Hernández Rosas, of the Barceló group; and Mariluz Fraile Romero, of Satocan. Also participating will be prominent design professionals such as Ana Ley Pérez, founder of ABD Interiorismo, and Lisandro Hernández, of ACH Arquitectos, along with architect Alejandro Morán Hurtado (CGMH Arquitectos) and Alex Monzó, of Ona Hotels & Apartments.
The 2025 edition of the Great Hotel Debate will not only analyze the impact of the global economic situation on established tourist destinations like the Canary Islands, but will also promote a medium- and long-term vision on how to evolve toward more resilient, competitive models that are consistent with the region's identity. In this sense, the forum will address the need to balance investment, sustainability, quality of life for residents, and destination brand differentiation.
The event, sponsored by Airzone Ltd and Molins, is a strategic opportunity to forge alliances between operators, developers, architectural firms, and public officials. Gran Canaria, one of the most important tourist hubs in the European Atlantic, thus strengthens its role as a trends laboratory and meeting point for those designing the tourism of the future.
