A serious traffic accident occurred this Wednesday on the GC-65 highway in the municipality of Santa Lucía de Tirajana, seriously injuring the driver of a truck that left the road and fell down a difficult-to-access slope. The driver was evacuated by medical helicopter to Doctor Negrín Hospital.
The accident occurred at 15:03 p.m. on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, on the GC-65 highway, near the area above the Santa Lucía de Tirajana cemetery. According to information from the Emergency and Safety Coordination Center (CECOES) 1-1-2, the heavy vehicle plummeted down a slope, coming to rest approximately 15 meters from the road after apparently losing control on a steep curve.
The driver, the truck's sole occupant, suffered severe multiple injuries at the time of initial treatment and was urgently evacuated by medical helicopter from the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC) to the Doctor Negrín University Hospital of Gran Canaria. He was previously stabilized by SUC medical personnel in coordination with firefighters, who secured the area to allow the helicopter to land near the accident site.
The emergency response also involved a medical ambulance, a basic life support ambulance, units from the Gran Canaria Emergency Consortium, the Santa Lucía de Tirajana Local Police, and the Civil Guard, who were responsible for securing the area and conducting the necessary investigations. The road was partially closed for several hours while rescue efforts and securing the surrounding area were carried out.
