The filming of the blockbuster 'Trinidad' brings Paz Vega and Karla Sofía Gascón to the south of Gran Canaria and turns the Sioux City theme park into a true Wild West set.
The western Trinidad has arrived in Gran Canaria with a shoot that combines international talent and local locations. The production, co-directed by Laura Alvea and José Ortuño, has a budget of €14 million and stars Gabriela Andrada, Paz Vega, and Karla Sofía Gascón, who plays the widow Bronson.
A significant portion of filming took place at Sioux City Park, a theme park in southern Gran Canaria and a tourist attraction that has also become a popular destination for major international productions in recent years. This Wild West-themed park closed to the public from April 21 to May 26, 2025, to facilitate filming.
Already in 2022, the park also closed its doors from June 1st until the end of the year to accommodate the filming of the series "Fox", an international blockbuster starring Miguel Bernardeau and released on Amazon Prime.
One of the big draws of this shoot is seeing Karla Sofía Gascón back in action after her controversy at the beginning of the year, when some of her old social media posts surfaced containing racist comments and attacks on various public figures. This controversy marred her campaign to win the Oscar for Best Actress for her role in "Emilia Pérez," a film that was also not without controversy during the film industry's festival and awards season.
The story of Trinidad follows a young Spanish woman who, fleeing from justice, travels to the Wild West with her mother and sister. There she discovers her skill with weapons and faces various challenges in a hostile environment, where Karla Sofía Gascón plays the "villain." The cast also includes other renowned figures from the national scene, such as “Almodóvar Girl” Milena Smit, Alfonso Sánchez, and Antonio Dechent. Filming in the Canary Islands will continue until June 20.
