May 30th, Canary Islands Day, will also mark the early arrival of summer on the islands, with rising temperatures, haze and trade winds that will particularly affect Gran Canaria.
The Spanish State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) has reported that starting Thursday, May 30, 2025, the Canary Islands will be affected by a period of heat, haze, and wind. In Gran Canaria, especially in the south and midlands, temperatures are expected to exceed 30°C, with suspended dust from the Sahara that could reduce visibility and affect air quality.
The trade winds will tend to strengthen during the first few days of June, with stronger gusts in coastal and mid-mountain areas. Furthermore, swells are expected along the northern coasts, with waves that could reach between 1 and 2 meters in height, according to updated data from AEMET Canarias.
For the rest of the archipelago, the forecast is generally stable, with mostly clear or mostly cloudy skies. Temperatures will range between 22 and 28°C in the western islands and between 24 and 30°C in the eastern islands. Lanzarote and Fuerteventura could also experience light calima intrusion. The recommendation remains to stay hydrated, avoid sun exposure during the central hours of the day, and pay special attention to the vulnerable population during this adverse weather event.
