The patron saint of Gran Canaria arrives this Tuesday, June 3rd, in Vecindario and will stay until Wednesday, June 4th, at the Church of San Rafael, where she will meet with the image of Saint Lucia.
Vecindario is preparing to welcome the image of the Virgen del Pino, patron saint of Gran Canaria, this Tuesday, in a highly anticipated visit by the Catholic community in the south of the island. The Virgen del Pino will arrive in Santa Lucía de Tirajan for her fifty-second Descent.
The statue's arrival is scheduled for Tuesday, June 3, and it will remain in the municipality for two days, until Wednesday, June 4. During this time, numerous liturgical events, processions, masses, and meetings with various associations, educational centers, and groups will be held.
Tomorrow, Tuesday, the day will begin at 06 pm with the procession from the Sardina Crossing (Parish of Saint John the Apostle and Evangelist) to the church of Saint Raphael the Archangel, where you will meet the image of Saint Lucy. An hour later, at 07 pm, the official reception of the image and the signing of the corresponding certificate by the parish priest of Teror, the parish priest of San Rafael Arcángel and representatives of the Santa Lucía de Tirajana City Council will take place.
The first Mass of the day will be celebrated at 08:30 a.m. Later, between 09:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., a meeting is planned with the primary schools of Santa Lucía de Tirajana, so that the municipality's youngest children can witness this historic moment.
The program continues at 13:00 p.m. with another Mass, followed by another at 17:00 p.m., during which a special visit will also be made to the elderly. At 19:00 p.m., the Virgin of the Pine will depart for San Rafael Square, where the rosary will be recited at 19:30 p.m., and another Mass will be celebrated at 20:00 p.m.
At 21:00 p.m., the municipal ceremony of Santa Lucía de Tirajana will take place in honor of the Virgen del Pino in the Plaza de San Rafael. Following this ceremony, a prayer space will open in the church, which will remain open until closing at 23:00 p.m.
On Wednesday the 4th, Masses will be celebrated at 08:00 a.m., 13:00 p.m., 17:00 p.m., and 19:30 p.m. A meeting with secondary school students will be held between 09:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.
Following the 19:30 p.m. Mass, an archpriestal prayer will be held with the participation of the communities of Ingenio, Agüimes, Santa Lucía de Tirajana, San Bartolomé de Tirajana, and Mogán. Later, at 21:15 p.m., a thanksgiving ceremony will be held for the visit of the Virgin of the Pine to the municipality. As on Tuesday the 3rd, the church will close its doors at 23:00 p.m.
The visit is promoted by the Diocese of the Canary Islands and its main objective is to bring the figure of the patron saint closer to the faithful from different areas of the island, especially those who, for various reasons, cannot travel to the Basilica of Teror.
In this regard, many people are expected to travel from the towns near Santa Lucía de Tirajana, especially from the south of the island, promoting a gathering of the faithful that will make Vecindario the religious and spiritual epicenter of Gran Canaria for a few days.
