The patron saint of Gran Canaria was welcomed by hundreds of residents at dawn,
on a journey full of emotion and devotion
This Monday, Vecindario experienced one of those days that will go down in local history. The arrival of the Virgen del Pino, patron saint of Gran Canaria, to the municipality of Santa Lucía de Tirajana brought thousands of faithful to the Cruce de Sardina from early morning, where the procession that led to the church of San Rafael Arcángel began.
The image of the Virgin began its journey along Avenida de Canarias at 06:30 a.m. and was accompanied by thousands of residents in a procession, institutional representatives, and members of the parish community.
Chants, "Long live the Virgin of Pino," and the release of balloons and petals marked a procession that began at night, continued through the dawn, and reached San Rafael in broad daylight. Many people claim they stayed up all night to see the Virgin of Pino enter the church of San Rafael from the front row. There she met with the image of the Virgin of Santa Lucía, San Pedro Mártir, and San Rafael himself.
At the church, the official reception and signing of the document took place by the parish priest of Teror, the parish priest of San Rafael, and the Santa Lucía de Tirajana City Council, thus marking the beginning of a historic day for the municipality and the southeast of the island.
