The Fimar fair will open on Friday as a benchmark for understanding and protecting the oceans.

Maspalomas24h Thursday, June 05, 2025

The 14th edition of the International Sea Fair will take place from Friday to Sunday at the Sanapú Pier in the Port of La Luz.

The wait is over, and we're almost ready to welcome the 14th edition of the 2025 International Sea Fair, which will be held from this Friday, June 6th to Sunday, June 8th at the Muelle de Sanapú in the Port of Las Palmas, the same space as the previous edition, between the Poema del Mar aquarium and the Onda Atlántica footbridge. The event, which has established itself as the leading forum for the blue economy and marine issues in the Canary Islands, arrives with a special focus on the "Sustainability of the Canary Islands Coastline." This new edition opens this Friday at 10:30 a.m. with the presence of the President of the Gran Canaria Island Council, Antonio Morales.

Fimar 2025 is an event promoted by the Gran Canaria Island Council, the Las Palmas de Gran Canaria City Council, and the Ports of Las Palmas, and organized by the City of the Sea Department of the capital of Gran Canaria and Infecar, the Gran Canaria Fair.

More than 50 exhibitors will participate in this latest edition of the fair, which will feature approximately 80 stands, an extensive program of informative talks, recreational activities, a children's area, and a restaurant area, in what has become the major event for the blue economy in the city, on the island, and in the Canary Islands. The Portuguese town of Ericeira will be the guest city at FIMAR 2025, which will once again feature sea excursions, a parade, and a performance by the Gran Canarian band Los Lola.

Extensive educational program

During the fair, the public will be able to enjoy a broad educational program with free, open activities. The program will feature presentations on the Portuguese man-of-war's drifting colonies, the connection between physics and biology in the oceans, the journey of microplastics in Canary Island waters, and surprising topics such as the relationship between Canary Island dates and sea bass. There will also be educational sessions to educate on climate change and measures to protect consumers from ciguatoxin, a topic of great importance to health and sustainability.

FIMAR will also be a space to discover technological advances in the marine world: exploration with autonomous robots, predictions using artificial intelligence, and the production of sustainable fuels from microalgae. All of this will be presented by experts from the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and other institutions, who will share their knowledge and discoveries.

Activities for children and families

And there will be no shortage of activities for children and families: workshops, storytelling, sing-alongs, and a children's area that grows in importance each year. In addition, attendees can enjoy seaside walks between the Santa Catalina Pier and the Sports Pier, visit Maritime Rescue boats, savor local cuisine in a specially designated area, and enjoy a parade and a performance by the Gran Canarian band Los Lola.

You can also visit the Elder Museum on June 7 and 8, where you can enjoy a parallel activity in the Planetarium with talks on "Navigating with the Stars." The following will be held at 11:00 a.m., 13:00 p.m., and 17:00 p.m. on June 7; and at 11:00 a.m., 12:00 p.m., and 13:00 p.m. on June 8.

This new edition of Fimar, which opens its doors in 2018, promises to be a unique opportunity to gain insight into the reality of the oceans, learn about advances in research and technology, and reflect on how we can contribute to the blue economy and the protection of the marine environment in the Canary Islands and beyond. All this takes place in an environment designed for leisure and public enjoyment, reaffirming Las Palmas' connection to the sea and its maritime tradition.

The fair's opening hours, which include free admission, will be from 10:30 a.m. to 20:00 p.m. on Friday the 6th and Saturday the 7th; and from 10:30 a.m. to 15:00 p.m. on Sunday the 8th.
