Neighborhood is once again the scene of another accident during rush hour, while the GC-1 highway remains without any real answers to the daily congestion.

A 23-year-old man was injured Thursday morning after his vehicle overturned on the GC-1 highway near Vecindario, in the municipality of Santa Lucía de Tirajana. The accident occurred around 3:46 a.m. and mobilized emergency services.

According to the Emergency and Security Coordination Center (CECOES) 1-1-2, the driver suffered moderate injuries. He was treated at the scene by personnel from the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC) and taken by ambulance to Doctor Negrín Hospital.

Members of the Gran Canaria Emergency Consortium secured the damaged vehicle, while Civil Guard officers conducted the necessary investigations to determine the cause of the accident.

This latest incident follows the two accidents recorded this Wednesday that caused another major traffic jam that clogged the island's main artery, GC-1, all morning, and the daily rush-hour traffic jams that ultimately impact traffic on the highway for much of the day.

Despite the measures announced by the Cabildo of Gran Canaria to reorganize traffic, various circumstances such as the increase of up to 15% in total passenger traffic in Gran Canaria from the airport –which We boarded a few days ago at Maspalomas24h–, the high density and age of the island's fleet of vehicles, the lack of viable alternative routes, and several conflictive points on the access roads to Telde and Carrizal create a scenario of almost permanent congestion between the south, the airport, and the capital.
