The San Bartolomé de Tirajana Housing Department has officially begun comprehensive renovation work on the La Paz residential development in San Fernando de Maspalomas. This project, part of the Planned Rehabilitation Residential Environment (ERRP), represents one of the municipality's most ambitious initiatives to improve its public housing stock. The project will directly benefit 132 families and improve eight buildings, with the aim of profoundly transforming the surroundings, improving accessibility, energy efficiency, and the quality of life of residents.

The project has a total investment of €4.729.170,84, of which the San Bartolomé de Tirajana Housing Department is contributing €698.085,42, the same amount as the Government of the Canary Islands. This investment is in addition to the €3.333.000 contributed by the Government of Spain, from the Recovery, Transformation, and Resilience Plan financed by the European Union (NextGenerationEU). This intervention is part of the strategy of the department, led by Councilor Lucía Jiménez (CC), to regenerate historic housing estates that "have required extensive intervention for years, not only aesthetically, but also structurally and functionally," the councilor points out.
Among the improvements to be carried out are the repair of structural damage to the buildings, such as cracks in pillars and foundation problems, which will ensure the safety and stability of the homes. Elevators will also be installed, doorways will be widened, and access points will be adapted so that everyone, especially the elderly or those with reduced mobility, can access their homes comfortably. The facades will receive thermal insulation to reduce the cold in winter and the heat in summer, resulting in greater comfort and energy savings. In addition, solar energy systems will be installed, public lighting will be improved with more efficient and modern technology, and common areas will be completely renovated, including improved sidewalks, parking, and new gardens. The entire project will be designed to create a more accessible, safe, and friendly environment where residents can live with greater quality and well-being.
First Deputy Mayor Alejandro Marichal emphasized that this project is the result of a clear commitment from his department since the beginning of his term. "We have made it a priority to improve the existing housing stock in the municipality. Today we are fulfilling that commitment in La Paz, and we are doing so with an initiative that will completely transform the lives of hundreds of residents," he stated. Marichal also noted that this project joins others already underway, such as the projects in Santa Águeda, in El Pajar; the Ifa Group, in San Fernando; and the 106 homes in Castillo del Romeral. "And we will soon do the same in the Las Llaves development. We are not just keeping promises; our goals are being met through visible realities," he added.
Jiménez, for his part, highlighted the direct impact this project will have on the daily lives of the neighborhood's residents. "The rehabilitation of La Paz is not just a project; it's an investment in quality of life. We're talking about removing barriers, modernizing facilities, and making public spaces safer, more cared for, and more humane. It's a turning point for the families who live here," he concluded.
The renovation of the La Paz residential development was a project launched in 2020, during the period in which Coalición Canaria was part of the previous governing group, alongside the PSOE, NC, and Ciudadanos. The initiative was halted by the previous government after the breakdown of that pact. Despite this, Coalición Canaria did not cease in its efforts to recover and move it forward. "We have worked for years to ensure that this project would not be forgotten, because we knew it was an urgent need for the families in the neighborhood," recalls Alejandro Marichal.
In 2023, while in opposition, the nationalist party presented a motion supported by 225 signatures from residents demanding the rehabilitation of the development. The PSOE rejected it in a municipal plenary session, arguing that it lacked a technical and administrative basis. “Five years later, today we can proudly say that we achieved it. This project is no coincidence; it is the result of perseverance, serious work, and our firm commitment to dignifying the public housing stock,” Marichal stated during a visit to the construction site.
The project is expected to take twelve months and is designed to be completed in phases, with the goal of minimizing disruption to residents and ensuring safety throughout the entire process. With this project, the Department of Housing takes another step in its commitment to urban regeneration, focusing on the transformation of the existing public housing stock, the improvement of public housing, and the well-being of its residents.
