The Maspalomas Costa Canaria Soul Festival, one of Europe's most important musical events of its kind, is gearing up for its ninth edition with a top-notch artistic lineup presented this morning at a press conference by the Mayor of San Bartolomé de Tirajana, Marco Aurelio Pérez, and the Festival Director, Dania Dévora, accompanied by the Councilor for Culture, Equality, Youth and Education, Elena Álamo, and Councilor Esther Delgado.
From 18 to 20 July, the San Agustin Beach San Bartolomé de Tirajana will become the epicenter of soul, offering a unique musical experience with free admission. This festival, declared a Festival of Local Tourist Interest and established as a must-attend event in the Canary Islands summer, fuses the vibrant rhythms of soul with a family-friendly atmosphere, local cuisine, and activities for all audiences in a heavenly setting. "It's an important festival for our municipality, a classic in the south of Gran Canaria that society has come to expect," stated the mayor. Councilor for Culture and Equality Elena Álamo emphasized the fact that it is a festival that takes place on "our soulful beach, which fuses and unites with the social and cultural fabric of our municipality over three days and which takes into account local talent. It's an irreplaceable event," the councilor stated.
Festival director Dania Dévora added, "Every year, our goal is to exceed expectations, and for this ninth edition, we've put all our passion and effort into creating an artistic lineup that pays homage to the roots and present of soul. This year, we'll once again be thrilled with a lineup of world-class artists, many of them from the birthplace of soul in the United States, alongside talents who are setting the pace on the international scene."
A stellar cast featuring the best of international soul
The 9th edition of the festival will bring together prominent soul figures from the United States and the international scene, promising unforgettable nights. Jerome Chism (USA) will lead an emotional tribute to the legend on Saturday, July 19 Wilson pickett, commemorating the 60th anniversary of the recording of his iconic hit In The Midnight HourIt will be a show full of passion that will revive the great classics of The Wicked Pickett.
JP Bimeni & The Black Belts (Burundi/Spain), the acclaimed artist of Burundian origin, known for his powerful voice and connection to the legacy of Otis Redding, will present his fusion of soul, psychedelia, and Afro-funk that has captivated international audiences.
From Memphis (USA) come six impressive voices, those of Candy Fox, Carlos Strong, Dani McGhee, Jonté Mayon, Lil Rounds y Shunta Mosby, all of them renowned figures of international soul who promise electrifying performances. In addition to the iconic The Memphis Music Hall of Fame Band, a stellar line-up of eleven musicians led by Kurt Clayton, whose repertoire pays homage to Memphis' musical legacy with contagious energy.
There will also be Canarian talent in the booths with the deejays Monterreina y Calamity Jane, who will be in charge of setting the rhythm for the sessions that will open each day of concerts, offering a select mix of soul, funky, Afrobeat and tropical beats. And all of them introduced by Rick Hutton y Sergio Miro, who will once again act as essential masters of ceremonies, as has been the case since the beginning of the festival.
A Festival that transcends music
The Maspalomas Costa Canaria Soul Festival is not just a musical event, but a comprehensive cultural experience. In addition to live performances, the festival is complemented on Sunday with a family day designed to be enjoyed as a community and as a family. Participating in this edition are the San Bartolomé de Tirajana Municipal Music School, which repeats its participation last year with a concert/showcase; Soul Connection: Schools in Motion, a choreographic showcase that brings together several dance schools in the municipality with soul as its creative and expressive basis; and the workshop by the artist Doramas, which invites young and old to explore artistic creation from a playful and participatory perspective. A morning designed to celebrate music, art, and movement with a local focus and a soulful spirit.

The commitment to cultural diffusion is reinforced with the union of Spanish Television (TVE) and Radio 3 as the festival's official media outlets. TVE will broadcast two 45-minute special programs featuring the event's highlights, while Radio 3 will host a special program featuring the best performances and offer coverage across its various programs, bringing the essence of the Maspalomas Costa Canaria Soul Festival to the entire country.
