Alejandro Marichal: “This project is part of our Housing Plan, which mobilizes more than 50 million euros to transform the municipality's residential stock.”

Lucía Jiménez: “After 40 years, this development needed a complete renovation. We're reinforcing structures, waterproofing roofs, and creating safer access for all residents.”

The comprehensive renovation of the 106 homes at Castillo del Romeral is progressing well after beginning last February. The project, promoted by the Housing Department of the San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council in collaboration with the Gran Canaria Housing Consortium and GESVISUR, will improve the structural safety, accessibility, and energy efficiency of this historic residential complex, built in 1983.

The First Deputy Mayor, Alejandro Marichal, and the Councilor for Housing, Lucía Jiménez, recently visited the construction project, which has an 18-month completion period and an investment of more than €553.516. "This project is part of our Housing Plan, which mobilizes more than €50 million to transform the municipality's residential stock," emphasized Alejandro Marichal. "In two years, we have implemented projects in El Pajar, Ifa, Las Llaves, La Paz, and now here, in Castillo del Romeral."

For her part, Lucía Jiménez emphasized the importance of this intervention for neighborhood well-being: “After 40 years, this development needed a complete renovation. We are reinforcing structures, waterproofing roofs, installing LED lighting, and creating safer access for all residents.”

Among the ongoing projects are the repair of facades, the updating of carpentry and service lines, the installation of accessible ramps and handrails, and the replacement of interior lighting with LED technology. In addition to improving the quality of life for residents, the project will contribute to environmental sustainability and the enhancement of the surrounding area.

The successful bidder, Pinturas y Reformas Montelongo SL, carried out the work with a 21,6% savings compared to the base tender budget. With this action, the Housing Department of the San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council reaffirms its commitment to the right to decent and adequate housing, in line with the objectives of the 2023-2027 SBT Housing Plan.
