Fire brought under control at the Juan Grande landfill caused by accumulated pruning debris

The fire mobilized numerous emergency teams, including helicopters from the GES (General Directorate of Forestry) and the Cabildo (Cabildo Council), to extinguish the blaze in San Bartolomé de Tirajana. The stored plant material was instrumental in the fire's spread.

A fire at the Juan Grande landfill forced the deployment of a large emergency operation this Wednesday to control the blaze, which originated in an area where pruning debris had accumulated. The fire, visible from several points in the municipality, raised concerns among the population due to its proximity to agricultural and storage areas.

According to the 112 Canary Islands Emergency and Safety Coordination Center, firefighters from San Bartolomé de Tirajana, members of the Gran Canaria Island Council, officers from the Local Police, the Civil Guard, the General Corps of the Canary Islands Police, and the Emergency and Rescue Group (GES) participated in the extinguishing efforts. In addition, a GES helicopter was activated, followed by two environmental helicopters from the Island Council to reinforce the aerial extinguishing efforts.

The flames primarily affected accumulated plant debris, creating a fire that was difficult to control due to its combustible content. Despite the magnitude of the fire, no injuries or damage to homes have been reported. Crews continue working in the area to ensure the fire is completely extinguished and prevent possible re-ignition in other areas of the landfill.
