The Canary Islands Government's (PP) Department of Tourism and Employment has launched a fundamental initiative to improve and modernize tourism infrastructure on the southern coast of Gran Canaria. With an initial investment of €104.619, funding has been allocated for the development of essential technical projects in the municipality of San Bartolomé de Tirajana. This strategic move reaffirms the administration's commitment to the quality and excellence of one of the archipelago's most important tourist destinations.

The funds will be channeled toward two crucial projects affecting the iconic Paseo Costa Canaria. The first project will focus on the section from the Mirador de las Dunas to the Tropical Shopping Center. Future projects will seek to standardize the paving, significantly improve the landscaped areas by replanting palm trees, and build a new sewage line to modernize the existing infrastructure. These interventions are vital to maintaining the aesthetics, functionality, and sustainability of such a busy space.

The second phase of planning will focus on the section connecting the Bahía Feliz development with Playa del Águila. Here, technical studies will determine the need to construct some sections from the foundations and others partially, given the nature of the terrain and accumulated wear. The primary objective of these future works is to ensure the continuity of pedestrian routes, optimizing key aspects such as accessibility, safety, and access points to the coast and the sea—crucial elements for the visitor experience.

The General Directorate of Infrastructure, Sustainability, and Tourism Quality has promoted this financial allocation with the clear intention of strengthening collaboration with local governments. Mateo emphasized that these funds are key not only for the eventual creation of new construction, but especially for promoting infrastructure renovation projects that, while they have fulfilled their purpose, require updating to maintain the destination's quality and competitiveness. This investment in the project phase aligns perfectly with the Canary Islands Strategy for Island Tourism Infrastructure, approved last November by the Governing Council, and specifically with its line 3, dedicated to improvement and conversion of coastal tourist areas. This is a fundamental step by the Government of the Canary Islands to lay the foundations for a profound revitalization of its tourism infrastructure, ensuring that southern Gran Canaria not only maintains its appeal but also enhances it for the future.
