The partnership between SPAR Gran Canaria and the educational and social project Barrios Orquestados celebrates its ninth anniversary, consolidating its position as an example of sustained commitment to social inclusion and equal access to culture through music for Gran Canarian society.
For the ninth consecutive year, the supermarket chain and the organization signed an agreement aimed at continuing to work to offer free music training to children and families in vulnerable situations, promoting personal and community development based on equal opportunities.
The agreement was formalized by the president of Barrios Orquestados, José Brito; the president of SPAR Gran Canaria, Ángel Medina; and its vice president, José López, as a sign of a collaboration that continues to grow year after year and has allowed music to be brought to six neighborhoods on the island.
Barrios Orquestados creates children's orchestras and choirs, engaging families to build a society with equal opportunities, fostering the development of self-esteem and a personal and collective commitment to positive coexistence.
Thanks to this commitment, 410 people on the island, 209 of whom are minors, have access to quality, hands-on musical education, regardless of their socioeconomic status. Seven children's orchestras and 11 choral groups exist throughout the municipalities of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Telde, and Agüimes. The project provides them with instruments on loan, thus facilitating the participation of families with limited financial resources.
This partnership will also allow for the development of the 7th Workshop on Instrumental Pedagogy and Group Dynamics, which will be held from July 11 to XNUMX at the Alfredo Kraus Auditorium in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and is organized every summer by Barrios Orquestados. This training event aims to promote social cohesion between the scholarship students and the project team.
