Alejandro Marichal: "This is further proof that housing is our priority. We're making up for lost time and laying the groundwork to make San Bartolomé de Tirajana a place to live once again."

Lucía Jiménez: "The agreement signed between the authorities allows us to renew the energy efficiency and improve the urban environment of the 32 buildings that make up this development."

The San Bartolomé de Tirajana Housing Department is making progress in the process of comprehensively renovating the Montaña Clara development, located in the town of San Fernando. Following the grant application, an agreement was signed today between the various participating authorities, allowing the project to be given the green light. "This agreement allows us to renew the energy efficiency and improve the urban environment of the 32 properties that make up this development," said Lucía Jiménez (CC) Councilor for Housing. The total investment amounts to €1.720.603,04.

The project is part of the Recovery, Transformation, and Resilience Plan, financed by the European NextGenerationEU funds. Thanks to this agreement, the necessary financial contributions to execute the project are activated: the Ministry of Housing and Urban Agenda is contributing €787.520, the Gran Canaria Housing Consortium is contributing €446.853,52, and the Department of Housing will allocate €486.229,52 in two annual installments. In addition, the owners must contribute €9.600, an amount that will be advanced by the City Council and subsequently reimbursed.

The works include insulating the facades and roofs to improve energy efficiency, replacing doors and windows, and installing new air conditioning and hot water systems that do not use gas or other fossil fuels. These improvements are expected to reduce the buildings' energy consumption by more than 65%. In addition, work will be done to make all blocks accessible, and the common areas and surrounding areas of the development will be renovated.

Alejandro Marichal, First Deputy Mayor, described the management of the Department of Housing as "exemplary." "In just two years, they have launched the renovation of four residential developments and have moved quickly to secure this new grant. This is no coincidence: it's proof that housing is our priority in this term. We are making up for lost time and laying the foundations so that San Bartolomé de Tirajana can once again be a place to live."

It's worth remembering that last March, the First Deputy Mayor and the Councilor for Housing held an informational meeting with the residents of Montaña Clara to present the project and address residents' requests to include this development in the renovation assistance program.

For her part, Councilor for Housing, Lucía Jiménez, stated that "the renovation of Montaña Clara is a firm step in our roadmap to modernize the existing housing stock. This intervention will not only improve energy efficiency but will also have a direct impact on the quality of life of the people who live here."

The City Council plans to put the works out to tender before the last quarter of 2025 and complete them by the end of the second half of 2026, thus meeting the milestones established by the Recovery Plan. This project represents a further step in the municipal strategy to rehabilitate the existing housing stock and regenerate the urban fabric in the municipality's residential areas.
