First Deputy Mayor Alejandro Marichal highlights the importance of the establishment as an "economic engine for the midlands area."
Davinia Ramírez, Councilor for Heritage, stated that "the permanent closure of the facilities forces us to terminate the contract with the current contracting entity."
The Heritage Department of the Illustrious City Council of San Bartolomé de Tirajana, headed by Davinia Ramírez, will initiate the procedure for the termination of the administrative concession contract for the operation, improvement, and expansion of the Hotel Las Tirajanas at the ordinary plenary session in June 2025.
It should be noted that the aforementioned establishment has been closed to the public since 2020. As stated in the Economic and Administrative Conditions, the city council may terminate the concession with MAR ABIERTO SL "due to the dissolution or bankruptcy of the concessionaire, without any right to compensation." This requirement is currently met, as the concessionaire has entered into bankruptcy proceedings.
Pursuant to the regulations, the city council will also grant the aforementioned bankrupt entity a hearing so that, within ten business days, it may submit any allegations it deems appropriate and submit any documents it deems necessary.
This process, initiated by the Heritage Department headed by Davinia Ramírez, ultimately seeks to reopen the hotel, which is located in a strategic area of the mountainous terrain. In this regard, First Deputy Mayor Alejandro Marichal explained that "the hotel will economically boost the mountainous terrain of the municipality by generating employment, thereby also addressing the problem of depopulation affecting our upper area."
Finally, it's worth noting that this is a four-star, municipally owned hotel, opened in 2000, and features 60 rooms, a children's play area, an outdoor and heated pool, sports facilities, and a host of other attractions, including a chapel for weddings, which will be open to the general public once all administrative procedures are completed.
