The San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council will present to the Plenary Session on June 26 a proposal to amend the Ordinance Regulating the Public Price for the provision of sunbeds and umbrellas on the municipality's beaches. The measure, promoted by the Department of Coastal Care, headed by Yilenia Vega (CC) and sponsored by the First Deputy Mayor, Alejandro Marichal (CC), responds to the urgent need to update a file that has been stalled for more than 25 years.
The proposal has three clear objectives: first, to unblock and update an ordinance that had not been renewed for more than two decades; second, to adapt prices and services to current reality, aligning them with the average established on beaches throughout the Canary Islands; and third, thanks to this update, to increase public revenue, which until now had been hindered by outdated prices.
Alejandro Marichal explained that "we can't continue dragging out 25-year-old cases. This measure is essential for our municipality to stop losing public revenue and be able to offer a more competitive service. The revenue we generate will translate directly into improvements for our beaches and, above all, for the well-being of our residents."
For her part, Yilenia Vega stated that "we are updating a completely outdated ordinance to respond to the current demands of those who visit our beaches. We are talking about incorporating new services such as Balinese hammocks and safety deposit boxes, establishing reasonable prices, and providing legal security to a public service that is essential to the destination's competitiveness. Maspalomas Costa Canaria cannot afford to continue operating under regulations from the past."
The amendment affects articles 1, 3, and 2 of the ordinance. New public fees are established: €4 per hammock or umbrella, €3 per Balinese hammock, and €4,5 per safe. Furthermore, payment by POS terminal is incorporated when the service is managed directly by the City Council, thus strengthening financial control and transparency.
Once approved by the Plenary, the amendment will be subject to public comment for 30 days.
