Francina Armengol, Salvador Illa, and Ábalos are among those affected by a leak from Gran Canaria that is being investigated by the National Court.
A new episode in the surreal national political scene and in the Koldo case. The National Police arrested two people this Tuesday in Gran Canaria for their alleged involvement in the dissemination of personal data of government ministers, senior PSOE officials, and names linked to the already high-profile Koldo scandal. What began as a judicial investigation into corruption has become a hotbed of digital threats against the country's political elite.
The investigation is being conducted by the National Court and is under seal. The facts point to a second massive leak of sensitive information through Telegram channels, with the names, addresses, phone numbers, ID numbers, and email addresses of dozens of public figures. These include ministers, former regional presidents, journalists, and businessmen under judicial scrutiny.
Agents recently located a Telegram channel where this trove of confidential data had been published. Those affected include heavyweights such as the Speaker of Congress, Francina Armengol, and the President of the Generalitat (Catalan government), Salvador Illa. Also on the list are former minister Ábalos, his former advisor Koldo García, businessman Víctor de Aldama, and Santos Cerdán, the former number three of the PSOE (Spanish Socialist Workers' Party), who was imprisoned yesterday.
The operation highlights a recurring pattern. On June 19, a first wave of leaks appeared on another Telegram channel, with more than 90.000 followers, directly targeting Vice President María Jesús Montero and several current ministers. Former PP leaders such as María Dolores de Cospedal and Rafael Catalá were also implicated. The information, initially published by a user hiding behind a pseudonym, was later replicated and distributed by other profiles.
