The passenger detained at Gran Canaria Airport was carrying heroin hidden inside his luggage.
The Civil Guard at Gran Canaria Airport, under the authority of the Customs and Excise Administration, arrested a 35-year-old man arriving from Amsterdam on vacation in Gran Canaria for carrying a very large amount of drugs in his luggage, more than six kilos of heroin. This constitutes an unprecedented arrest in this type of drug and field.
The operation took place upon the arrival of a flight from Europe, during a routine check while the Civil Guard was carrying out its functions as the State Fiscal Guard.
The officers' expertise, who noticed suspicious behavior on the passenger's part, led to their detention. As he was about to be inspected, he attempted to flee, leaving the arrivals hall at a run, and was intercepted outside. From there, a thorough search was conducted. Upon examining the suspect's luggage, several packages were discovered containing a powdered substance, a large sum of cash, and other items used in the crime, all inside a suitcase.
Subsequent analysis of the seized substance revealed a positive result for the presence of heroin, more than six kilograms, a finding that underscores the seriousness of the crime and the potential impact on public health.
This intervention exemplifies the effectiveness of the preventive measures implemented by the Civil Guard and the Tax Agency in airport areas, designed to detect and prevent both tax and criminal offenses.
As a result of this coordinated action, the individual was arrested and faces charges of crimes against public health in the form of drug trafficking.
The detainee, along with the seized drugs, was brought before the Telde Court of First Instance, which ordered his imprisonment.
