Gran Canaria expands French customer connectivity this winter with EasyJet

Maspalomas24h Thursday, July 03, 2025

The island destination has seen a 1,3% increase in the number of seats flying to Gran Canaria from abroad this winter and new routes to Ljubljana, Molde and Guernsey.

Tourism The island of Gran Canaria continues to grow in air connectivity. EasyJet has announced the launch of two new routes from the island destination to the French market for the 2025/2026 winter season, from the cities of Nante and Lyon.

The airline will begin operating flights from these two French department capitals, with two weekly flights from each city, at the end of October. With these two new routes, easyJet's service to Gran Canaria now includes around twenty travel options.

"This is a significant development for the destination, as, following the historic increase in French customer volume in recent years, we have strengthened this connectivity in a specific context of decline in this market," explained Gran Canaria Tourism Minister Carlos Álamo. He noted that the availability of seats is established and justified by the airlines themselves, based on demand and a prior occupancy study, so it is expected that these seats will be filled to a high degree.

The councilor emphasized that Gran Canaria enjoys unprecedented connectivity. "For this upcoming winter season, we will expect a 1,3% increase in the number of seats at foreign airports, including a 10% increase in the British market."

Gran Canaria's connectivity updates for the upcoming winter season include the opening of a previously unheard-of route to the Norwegian city of Molde via Air Baltic, the Latvian flag carrier. The airline will also fly to the island destination in December and January from Guernsey Airport, the capital of the British Channel Islands. Air Baltic is marketing this route to Guernsey using a 220-seat Airbus A148 and will operate a four-hour flight, directly linking the two islands for the first time. It will also fly from Molde once a week, from October 29, 2025, to April 8, 2026.

The Latvian airline's expansion at Gran Canaria Airport includes another important development. Air Baltic has announced the launch of operations from Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia, every Friday during the winter season. This marks the start of operations to Gran Canaria in this country and will offer a total of nine direct routes to the island. The airline also opened a seasonal base in Gran Canaria at the end of 2023, offering direct flights to the Baltic countries and Scandinavia.

In addition, the Hungarian airline Wizz Air has been connecting the island with Bucharest, the capital of Romania, since June, with a direct route with two weekly flights, arriving in Gran Canaria every Saturday and departing on Tuesdays.

Gran Canaria is currently directly connected to 161 airports around the world, with 66 airlines, 671 routes, and nearly 38.000 flights per year. "Flying to Gran Canaria from anywhere on the continent has never been so easy and convenient," the councilor concluded.
