The company will open a new food establishment in 2025 in a strategic location in Gran Canaria, at the foot of one of the largest industrial areas on the island, right between Santa Lucía de Tirajana and Agüimes.
The south of Gran Canaria continues to attract investment. The iconic American fast-food chain, McDonald's, has decided to strengthen its presence in Spain with a new restaurant located in a border area between the neighboring municipalities of Santa Lucía de Tirajana and Agüimes.

The establishment will be built on a large plot of land next to Calle Hiedra, within the municipality of Agüimes. It will be close to two gas stations (Cepsa and Petroprix) and a mechanic's workshop. This is a busy location, located on one of the main access roads to Santa Lucía de Tirajana and in the heart of a residential area, close to Los Llanos, Balos, and Cruce de Arinaga. This new restaurant joins the two in the Atlántico Shopping Center, strengthening the chain's reach in the area.
According to INE 2024 data, Agüimes and Santa Lucía de Tirajana have a total population of around 110.000, a number of potential customers to which must be added the number of workers who could use this establishment to eat during their workday, since the Arinaga Industrial Zone is located behind this new establishment, with more than 600 companies and around 8.000 workers per day.

The strategy of McDonald's and its franchisee seems clear: to become the fast food destination for residents of both municipalities, as well as for local employees looking for an alternative to the classic homemade Tupperware.
The choice of location is no coincidence. The area is already undergoing a transformation toward a service and restaurant model. A few months ago, the new Cepsa gas station on Avenida de las Tirajanas and a restaurant from the Canary Islands chain Rockabilly Burger opened practically simultaneously in an adjacent space.
With this opening, McDonald's advances its expansion plan in the south of Gran Canaria and the province of Las Palmas, where the new location will be the brand's 22nd. In December 2024, the chain opened three new restaurants in Spain, one of them in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, creating 25 jobs. Following the model of its recent openings, it is estimated that the new location could generate between 20 and 40 new jobs in the area.

Furthermore, based on the progress of the construction, it can be confirmed that the new restaurant will offer both drive-thru and McCafé service and will serve breakfast under the McCafé brand.
