Peace dressed in camouflage: when Maspalomas' academic tourism embraces the reality of the Army

The Canary Islands Command Base in Las Palmas brought with it a meeting that weaves invisible threads between worlds that, at first glance, seem distant. The university group from the CAMP "Tourism and Peace," an initiative of the Maspalomas Center for Collaboration and Resources for Sustainable Development, participated. Its purpose was to gain a first-hand understanding of a different reality: the work of Army units in the archipelago.

The young people, with the curiosity of those seeking to understand the social fabric, were able to delve into the daily life of the BRICAN XVI units, a fundamental link in our armed forces. Under the motto "We are your Army," a window is opened onto a service that is often perceived from afar. The visit allowed these university students, future tourism and peace professionals, to observe firsthand the discipline, preparation, and commitment of those who don the camouflage, not for war, but for security and stability, which, ultimately, are the foundations of any lasting peace.

It's a suggestive paradox to see young people trained in tourism and peace approach the essence of defense. It demonstrates that building a more harmonious future lies not only in diplomatic agreements or the promotion of paradisiacal destinations, but also in understanding all the facets that make up our society. A meeting in which, without a doubt, books gave way to lived experience, and theories confronted the palpable reality of duty.
