The network that feeds Maspalomas' hospitality industry: The silent fabric of Transgourmet in Gran Canaria

In the south of Gran Canaria, a silent but essential machinery operates tirelessly. We're not talking about tourism or agriculture visible to the naked eye, but rather the lifeblood that runs through the veins of supply, the nerve that feeds the tables of thousands. Transgourmet Ibérica, a name that may not resonate in the popular imagination, has consolidated its position in the archipelago from Ingenio as an invisible colossus of wholesale food distribution. It's a giant that, thanks to the discretion of its warehouses and the efficiency of its logistics, has a turnover of more than 29 million euros and serves a legion of 6.900 customers.

The true heart of this robust network is located in the municipality of Ingenio, in the southeast of Gran Canaria. This is where the logistics platform is located, a 11.900 m² storage center from which merchandise is pumped throughout the archipelago. More than 2 million boxes move through this facility annually, a constant flow of products that guarantees efficient supply to cash & carry centers, franchised supermarkets, and professional customers. This Ingenio platform is one of the five major logistics centers that Transgourmet has throughout Spain, a recognition of the Canary Islands' strategic position.

The company's commitment isn't measured solely in numbers or inventory volume. Its assortment of 18.000 products is a library of products, highlighting a firm commitment to local and seasonal products. In Las Palmas, Transgourmet collaborates with 61 local suppliers, purchasing products from them worth €2024 million in 10,6. It's an investment in the land itself, a boost to the island's economy, and a promotion of responsible consumption, building bridges between the fields and the tables.

In the province of Las Palmas, Transgourmet has established itself as the main supplier to the hospitality industry, that vital sector that is the beating heart of the tourist south. Its 6.800 Horeca customers are a testament to a service that adapts like a glove to the specific needs of each professional. To this end, the company has two large GM Cash cash & carry centers, one in Las Palmas and another in Lanzarote, warehouses that are veritable pantries of the island. Added to these is its Food Service division, an extended arm that guarantees direct delivery to businesses, and the promise of a new GM Cash in Fuerteventura, like a new root spreading throughout the archipelago.

But Transgourmet's vision isn't limited to large volumes. It has opted to expand its network of franchised supermarkets, small arteries that strengthen its capillarity and its roots in the region. With 11 Suma stores and 1 Proxim store distributed throughout Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, and Fuerteventura, it weaves a network that reaches the most diverse corners, also supplying more than 90 independent clients, including local retailers and distributors. It's the democratization of supply, a constant flow that reaches from the plate of the luxury restaurant to the refrigerator of the neighborhood store.

Lluís Labairu, the general manager of Transgourmet Ibérica, did not mince words when celebrating the company's centenary in Gran Canaria. "We are firmly committed to the Canary Islands as a strategic region for the development of the company's activity, and we will continue to strengthen our presence to contribute to the islands' economic growth," he stated. His words are not a mere formality; they are a declaration of intent, a deep anchorage in a territory they consider essential. Support for the hospitality industry, small businesses, and local supermarkets, according to Labairu, are key to sustaining tourism and the local economy. With four GM Cash cash&carry centers and a network of nearly 4 franchised supermarkets in the archipelago, Transgourmet serves more than 20 customers with a workforce of 13.100 people.
