The sports giant Decathlon is making a strong entrance in the Canary Islands with a new service that promises to transform the way we enjoy the sea: water sports equipment rentals. Paddle boards and kayaks are available for days or weeks, with in-store pickup and all the safety and quality guarantees of the French brand. For the first time, residents and tourists will be able to practice water sports without having to buy the equipment. And the south of Gran Canaria, with its iconic beaches such as Anfi, Amadores, and Maspalomas, is at the center of this initiative.

The five strategic stores in the archipelago—including Telde and Tamaraceite in Gran Canaria—will offer this innovative service through the platform. rental.decathlon.com/de/deA proposal designed for those who desire freedom, flexibility, and sustainability when it comes to sports.

Competitive prices for an active summer

Paddleboard rentals start at €35 per day or €75 per week, while the two-seater or three-seater kayak package starts at €40 per day, with the same weekly price. All this includes direct in-store pickup, no intermediaries, and no additional transportation required.

Each piece of equipment undergoes exhaustive quality controls, cleaning, and inspection, with direct attention from Decathlon's specialized staff.

Gran Canaria, the epicenter of accessible water sports

“Southern Gran Canaria is one of the most privileged places in Europe for water sports. Quiet beaches, stable climate, tourist services... That's why we wanted to be present here with a solution that eliminates barriers and makes sports accessible to everyone,” says Adrián Hervella, Director of Sustainability at Decathlon Spain.

This service, in addition to offering no-obligation access to sports equipment, is part of the company's circularity and sustainability strategy. "We want to give our products more life and facilitate more responsible sports practice," Hervella emphasizes.

Long-term subscriptions and environmental commitment

In addition to one-time rentals, Decathlon maintains its subscription rental offering, with plans ranging from 3 to 12 months for adults and 6 months for children. These subscriptions include maintenance, damage or theft coverage, and technical support.

An ideal option for those who live in Gran Canaria or spend their summers there frequently and want a convenient and affordable alternative to accessing the best amenities without the burden of ownership.

A new way to experience the sea in Gran Canaria

With this initiative, Decathlon strengthens its presence in the Canary Islands market, positioning itself as a key player in the transition toward a more flexible, circular, and sustainable consumption model. Sports are no longer just for those who can afford to buy. Now, thanks to rentals, anyone can take to the sea with confidence and freedom.
