Several residents of the Vista Taurito Apartments had to be evacuated this morning after a rockfall caused visible damage to the building's structure.
On Thursday morning, at around 07:30 a.m., a major rockfall occurred at 15 Calle Albaicín, in the Taurito area of the Mogán municipality. The rocks impacted the structure of the Vista Taurito Apartments building, causing visible damage to key elements such as beams, vaults, and floors. Due to the structural risk, emergency services proceeded with the preventive evacuation of the owners of the affected apartments.
The operation was led by the Gran Canaria Emergency Consortium Firefighters, based in Puerto Rico, who inspected the damage and secured the most vulnerable areas of the building. Mogán Local Police units, Civil Guard officers, municipal Civil Protection personnel, and resources from the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC) also participated in the intervention.
Local authorities remain vigilant about the evolving situation and are assessing structural damage to determine the building's safety. No injuries have been reported so far, but technicians are working to ensure there is no risk to residents before allowing them to return. Mogán City Council maintains its emergency and surveillance protocol in place in the area.
