The first phase of the works begins this Monday, July 14, at a cost of €873.674, with the aim of renewing the image of Avenida de las Américas as a pedestrian and commercial promenade.
The Department of Commerce of the San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council begins construction on the first phase of the El Tablero Open Commercial Zone (ZCA) this Monday, July 14. This will completely renovate the urban appearance and also the underground utility lines along the initial section of Avenida de Las Américas.
The works, recently awarded for a total of €873.673,82, are 84,5% subsidized by the Department of Economic Development, Industry, Commerce, and Crafts of the Gran Canaria Island Council. The work is expected to continue for the next ten months.
Mayor Marco Aurelio Pérez emphasized that "in this first phase of the works, an area of approximately 2.160 m² will be covered. The project's technical proposal aims to enhance the commercial promenade and pedestrian accessibility of the plaza area, and to modernize and standardize the public image of the 164 linear meters of Avenida de las Américas between Venezuela and Argentina streets."
To achieve this, the plan is to reduce traffic, leaving the current road as a one-way double lane and widening the sidewalks. These will be equipped with tree pits with vegetation of varying sizes to provide natural shade, efficient streetlights, and new street furniture. "The goal is to create new spaces for urban enjoyment and standardize the area to boost commerce in existing businesses and encourage entrepreneurship in future ones," explains Araceli Armas, Councilor for Commerce.
Araceli Armas emphasizes that, "in addition to beautifying public roads, the work plan includes the complete renovation of the public water, stormwater, and sewage networks, and the burying of telephone and lighting cables."
