The Association of Municipalities of the Mid-Altitude Region of Gran Canaria is consolidating its position as a key tool for inter-municipal cooperation and the optimization of public resources on the island. Its main objective is to improve the services offered to residents of the region, advancing strategic projects that encompass training, energy, and economic areas. At its last Ordinary Meeting, coordination with other public entities and member municipalities was strengthened, promoting initiatives that directly benefit the local population.
Training and employment: boosting the RENOE project
The commitment to employment and vocational training is evident in the relaunch of the RENOE training project , aimed at creating companies specializing in renewable energy in Gran Canaria. The application submitted to the Canary Islands Employment Service (SCE) has been approved, receiving a direct grant of €918.849,84. The first payment received amounts to €300.157,61, which will allow the program to begin in the last quarter of 2025.
To ensure the success of the RENOE project, authorization has been requested to subcontract training activities and accredit specialized centers. This program enjoys the active collaboration of the Mancomunidades del Norte and Sureste de Gran Canaria, the Canary Islands Institute of Technology, the Island Council's Employment Department, and the SCE itself.
Collaboration between communities: efficiency in public management
The Mid-Mountain Association is currently working on an agreement with the Association of Non-Coastal Mountain Municipalities of the Canary Islands. This agreement contemplates providing administrative and management services to optimize the resources available to both entities. Different alternatives are being evaluated to provide this agreement with the necessary resources to guarantee its proper implementation. ## Commitment to energy sustainability: 4ENERAGENCIES is born
The Association of Municipalities of the Mid-Altitude Regions of Gran Canaria is reinforcing its commitment to energy sustainability and local development by participating in the 4ENERAGENCIES project , an initiative supported by the European Union's LIFE program. Under the coordination of the Gran Canaria Island Council's Energy Department, this project envisions the creation of four Local Energy Agencies, including one specifically for the mid-altitude regions.
The approved proposal, with a total investment of €2,5 million, was formalized through a Concession Agreement signed on June 12th. The new agency will work to promote energy efficiency , boost the use of renewable energy, and encourage technological innovation throughout the region, thus fostering a just, sustainable, and decentralized energy transition.
14th Regional Wine, Cheese, and Honey Fair of the Canary Islands: economic revitalization and local promotion
With the aim of boosting the local economy and promoting traditional agri-food products, the Commonwealth has requested financial support from the Department of Economic Development, Industry, Commerce, and Crafts of the Island Council to co-finance the 14th Regional Wine, Cheese, and Honey Fair of the Canary Islands . This well-established event will be held on December 6 and 7, 2025, in the Gran Canaria municipality of Tejeda.
The fair represents a unique opportunity to promote local products, strengthen trade networks between producers, and attract visitors to the region, contributing to the sustainable economic development of the region.
