This Wednesday, FTSP-USO Canarias filed a complaint with the Labor Inspectorate against GSIE Seguridad for repeatedly failing to pay security guards working at public and private facilities, which could affect services in southern Gran Canaria.

The Federation of Private Security Workers of USO Canarias (FTSP-USO Canarias) has raised the alarm in southern Gran Canaria after filing a complaint with the Labor Inspectorate against the company General de Seguridad Integral Europea SL (GSIE Seguridad) for continued delays and non-payment of salaries and bonuses to security workers operating in key facilities in the tourism and services sector in the southern part of the island.

According to the federation, as of July 15, GSIE Seguridad has not paid either the June payroll or the summer bonus, which was mandatory until that date under the National Collective Agreement for Security Companies.

"It's unacceptable that in a tourism hub like southern Gran Canaria, security workers go without pay in the middle of the month, living in anguish and without financial security while still working their shifts," denounces FTSP-USO Canarias.

The union claims that this company already has a history of such practices and openly calls it a pirate company for repeatedly acting outside of labor law.

They demand sanctions and cancellation of contracts

FTSP-USO Canarias demands exemplary sanctions from the Labor Inspectorate, as well as the immediate review of the contracts awarded to GSIE by public bodies and private companies in the south of the island. "We cannot continue awarding contracts to companies that violate the basic rights of their employees. We call on public administrations to assume their responsibility," the union warns.

Furthermore, the federation does not rule out calling for visible union action in southern Gran Canaria if immediate compliance with the agreement and labor laws is not guaranteed.
