The passenger has been arrested and taken to prison.
On July 12, at Gran Canaria Airport, a high-profile operation was carried out by Civil Guard officers. As part of their role as the State Fiscal Guard and under the functional authority of the Customs and Excise Administrator of the Tax Agency, they successfully intercepted a significant drug shipment.
It all began with the arrival of a flight from a European country, originating in the EU. During preventive checks, officers observed the unusually nervous behavior of a 53-year-old passenger, prompting an inspection. A thorough baggage check revealed a shocking surprise: several bags contained a suspicious powdery substance.
After conducting the necessary analysis, it was confirmed that the substance was heroin—one of the drugs known for its most destructive effects—with a total weight of four kilograms. This discovery demonstrates the seriousness of the crime and the risk it poses to public health, given the highly detrimental impact this substance has on its users.
The individual was arrested immediately and, along with the seized drugs, handed over to the Telde Court of First Instance, which ordered his imprisonment. With this action, the Civil Guard and the Tax Agency reaffirm their commitment to citizen safety and the protection of public health, preventing these types of substances from reaching our streets.
This operation not only underscores the effectiveness of airport controls, but also the value of joint and coordinated work between different institutions to prevent illegal activities that threaten the well-being of society.
