The Departments of Roads and Public Works and Parks and Gardens are addressing the first phase of the plan for the functional and landscape improvement of urban and tourist roundabouts in Meloneras and Avenida de Tirajana.
The San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council is carrying out major landscaping and functional improvements at several key roundabouts in the urban area of Meloneras and Avenida de Tirajana, in Playa del Inglés.
The works are part of the first phase of the comprehensive improvement plan for the municipality's roundabouts, which is being undertaken in a coordinated manner by the Departments of Roads and Public Works and Parks and Gardens, led by Araceli Armas Cruz and supervised by Councilor Eduardo Armas Herrera.
In the Meloneras area, the large roundabout on Avenida de la India, in the El Hornillo area, has been completely renovated, as has the one at the intersection of Mar Mediterráneo and Mar de Noruega streets.
The work included clearing and comprehensive cleaning of the surfaces, installing an automated irrigation system, installing steel structures to design the new landscaping with decorative aggregates, and planting new palm trees and other low-maintenance plants. The curbs were also redesigned and beautified.
In parallel with this project in Meloneras, the curbs have been repaired and painted, and the electrical installations have been renovated at all the roundabouts on Avenida de Tirajana. This work has also been carried out at the Cristóbal Colón roundabout in Meloneras. The new ambient lighting enhances both the vegetation and the sculptures at these roundabouts, giving them a significant aesthetic value at night.
In addition, at the Las Lavanderas roundabout, near the Inem (National Institute of Employment), and at the Avenida de Franco roundabout, a new perimeter planting of seasonal flowers has also been carried out, completing a comprehensive beautification and modernization project that is necessary.
These interventions by the Departments of Roads and Public Works and Parks and Gardens on urban roundabouts seek to update and maintain the municipality's most representative public spaces in optimal condition, improving their image and sustainability.
