Guillermo Morales: "My assessment is highly positive, because the proposed objectives have been met and, in addition, most of the courses have filled their places, such as the days dedicated to Youth and Suicide or to Holiday Homes in the Canary Islands."

The Maspalomas Summer University registered more than 850 people enrolled in courses and workshops for its 33rd edition, in addition to the young people who participated in the XNUMXth International Rotary Camp and in practical classes at the Maspalomas International Trumpet Festival.

The training program took place at the Maspalomas Cultural Center, the Casa Condal, the Sports Pavilion, the Municipal Music School, the Maspalomas Skate Park, the El Tablero Cultural Center, and at Expomeloneras, where the trumpet classes were taught.

The director of the Maspalomas Summer University, Guillermo Morales, expressed his satisfaction with what was his fifth year as director of the summer university, which he previously directed in 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2024. He noted that he is already working on the 2026 program.

"My assessment is highly positive, because the proposed objectives have been met and, in addition, most of the courses have filled their places, such as the sessions dedicated to Youth and Suicide or to Holiday Homes in the Canary Islands, a topic of great interest to the municipalities of southern Gran Canaria and Las Palmas de Gran Canaria," stated Guillermo Morales.

This year, as the director emphasized, the courses were very well received by students, allowing them to learn about and discuss current and interesting topics, such as "Youth and Suicide," "Vacation Homes in the Canary Islands," and "Nutrition Without Dieting."

As every year, the "Looking at the Stars" workshop, which included a nighttime observation session, was fully booked, and more than twenty people were able to learn about the characteristics of Gran Canaria cheeses in a workshop led by expert Judith Silvela, in collaboration with Asoquegran.

Public speaking expert Ángel Lafuente celebrated 32 years at the summer university with the successful course "The 3 Always Essential Tools. Achieving an Unbeatable Personality. Public Speaking with Stage Pleasure. Mastering Dialogue," held at the Maspalomas Cultural Center.

Another of the most popular activities was the course "Singing with Breathing: Diaphragm and Voice," taught for the past six years by soprano Judth Pezoa, attended by 50 amateur students, singers, and choristers, who concluded the course with a closing concert.

The program was completed with the courses on "Personal Image," taught by Angélica González; "Industrial Heritage of the Canary Islands," with presentations by Amara Florido Castro, PhD in Art History, and several chroniclers of Gran Canaria; "Cartography Workshop," with Guillermo Morales; "Introduction to Skateboarding," with Benjamín Bermejo and Jorge Salazar; "Tourist German and English"; "Neurological Damage: Life Stories," with Víctor Fabián Galván; "Spanish Sign Language"; "Properties of Cultural Interest in the Canary Islands," with Yazmina Lozano; "Musical Jazz Dance," with dancer and choreographer Javier Toca; the workshops on "Freemasonry and Society" and "Democracy in the Canary Islands in the 21st Century"; the course "Introduction to Opera," with José Manuel González; and the seminar on the "Demographic Challenge: Depopulation vs. Overpopulation."

The 33rd edition of the Maspalomas Summer University is organized by the Department of Culture of the San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council, the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, and the Gran Canaria Island Council.
