The students, who are between 16 and 30 years old, have worked on topics such as the red weevil, phytosanitary legislation, management, cuts and clearing with chainsaws.
The “Magarza” Training Program in Alternation with Employment-Youth Guarantee is a theoretical-practical training itinerary promoted by the Department of Local Development of San Bartolomé de Tirajana, directed by Elena Espino, and has been subsidized by the Canary Islands Service of Employment and European Social Fund in the amount of €275.038,82.
“Magarza” is intended for training 15 male and female students between the ages of 16 and 30 in the gardening specialty. During the 9 months that the apprenticeship lasts, complementary training is provided through the training actions “Specialization in palm tree pruning and chainsaw operator”, which allows future gardeners to access the labor market with a curriculum according to the needs of the market.
The theoretical training has been carried out at the El Tablero Training Center and the practices have been developed in the municipal gardens located in El Tablero and around the Maspalomas Cultural Center.
Among the contents of the training, they have worked on topics such as the red weevil, phytosanitary legislation, the cultivation, prevention and rescue of palm trees, components and mechanics of the chainsaw or maintenance, handling, cutting and clearing with a chainsaw.
Elena Espino has highlighted the importance of institutions putting their resources at the service of training, especially aimed at young people. “Boys and girls demand more training and employment opportunities, so from Local Development we will continue to support the future professionals of our municipality,” she exclaimed.
