First booking data for southern Gran Canaria in autumn and winter 2025

YV Maspalomas24h Wednesday, July 30, 2025

The initial data available to Maspalomas Costa Canaria Tourism experts highlight high to very high occupancy rates for the remainder of 2025. The south of Gran Canaria, the economic capital of the Canary Islands, is preparing for the fall season with an increasing supply of airline seats and hotel occupancy expectations that remain solid, according to data updated at the end of July 2025. However, a more detailed analysis of flight searches and bookings suggests a slowdown in travel decisions that could affect forecasts.

The island will experience significant growth in the number of available airline seats in the coming months. Projections show a steady year-over-year increase in seats for August, September, October, and November 2025. The largest jump is seen in August, with a 7.55% increase in total seats year-over-year, followed by July with 8.35% (despite a slight 1.32% drop in occupancy), and November with 1.30%.

Regarding projected occupancy, Gran Canaria's hotels maintain high figures. For the July-November period, forecasts are consistently above 76%, with peaks of 79,57% in November and 78,5% in October. Although some projected occupancy figures for the current year show slight decreases compared to the previous year in July and August (76,35% vs. 76,62% in July; 77,38% vs. 78,26% in August), the year-over-year change in occupancy remains positive or stable for all the months analyzed, with increases of 0,35% in August, 1,14% in September, 1,36% in November, and 0,39% in October. This suggests that, despite more beds, demand is absorbing supply, maintaining occupancy.

Market Breakdown

The bulk of this increase in seats comes from the international market, which recorded year-on-year growth of 7,57% in August and 4,37% in September. Domestic seats, meanwhile, experienced a slight decline in July (-1,32%), but recovered by 0,39% in October and 1,30% in November.

Analyzing specific markets, visitors from Germany, the United Kingdom, and the Nordic countries are key pillars, although the "Other markets" segment (other international destinations not included in the top three) is showing the most dynamic growth, consolidating the diversification of visitor origins.

Reservations: Recent Changes and Trends

Net hotel bookings for travel between July and September 2025 show positive year-over-year changes in most tracking weeks (updated to July 28, 2025), indicating that booking volume is higher than last year during this key period.

However, the flight search and booking landscape is nuanced. Searches for flights to Gran Canaria for trips in July-September have seen negative variations in the final weeks of July, both for the domestic and international markets. A similar trend is observed for searches planning a trip in October-December. This contraction in recent searches could indicate less anticipation in travel planning or a period of uncertainty.

Regarding total flight bookings, a mixed trend is observed for the July-September period. Although the overall year-over-year change is positive, bookings made through GDS (Online Travel Agencies) for the last weeks of July show fluctuations, with some weeks in negative territory compared to the previous week. Bookings for October-December also show variable behavior, suggesting that the final travel decision may be being made at shorter notice or more influenced by last-minute factors.

Southern Gran Canaria is poised for an autumn season with robust air travel and good occupancy prospects, supported by market diversification. However, recent trends in flight searches and bookings require attention to ensure that visitor volumes match available airline capacity.
