Nueva Canarias targets the heart of Valsequillo: bottomless accounts, fleeing officials, and the encirclement of Prica

In Valsequillo, the entrance bell no longer rings. The silence of empty chairs resonates. Politics rots when the accountants leave and the police disguise themselves as municipal secretaries. This is the image of a City Council on the brink, governed by an old guard that refuses to let go of the baton. But its days are numbered. And what does this have to do with Maspalomas? Valsequillo is part of the Mancomunidad de Medianías (Mancommunity of Medianías), and this could paralyze the agreements to expedite hiring in San Bartolomé de Tirajana through this channel.

Francisco Atta, the local PRICA baron, who emerged from Nueva Canarias with his party, Asva, has lost his majority. And he knows it. This week, the motion of censure was signed, paving the way for his political burial. Nueva Canarias, with the opposition on its side, is sharpening the knife of change: recovering the municipality, cleaning up its accounts, and reorganizing it in a real way, not just lip service.

Because the accounts don't add up. And those who could have balanced them—the auditor, the secretary, the treasurer—are no longer with us. They've fled, one after the other, in less than a month. Too much smoke, too much pressure, too many invoices stashed away in the back of drawers as if the tax dust would erase everything.

A report—798/2025—opened Pandora's box: 1,5 million in unpaid bills to suppliers since 2020. Debts the mayor denied with the tone of a seminarian. He said there was nothing in the drawers, everything was paid, Valsequillo was moving forward with a firm step. Lie after lie. The bills were there, waiting to be collected. Like the municipality's sports clubs, which have gone two years without seeing a euro of their subsidies. No budget in 2024. And 2025... they don't even mention it anymore.

How do you manage a municipality without an auditor or a secretary? Easy: you use the local police. Two officers, out of the four available, have been placed in charge of the legal and accounting machinery. Valsequillo is currently a headless body with its arms tied. And if that weren't enough, there aren't enough police officers to control a party. Or to protect a street.

From the opposition, the message is clear: this isn't an anecdote; it's a reflection of a government that has confused administration with a farm. The mayor publicly blamed the auditor for administrative delays, as if complying with the law were a misdemeanor. But no dignity can withstand such pressure. And in the end, the technician left, leaving behind an uncomfortable truth: no one controls anything here.

Now, the motion of censure is on the table. And Nueva Canarias has already gotten down to business. They know it won't be easy to clean a cesspool, but someone has to start. Because Valsequillo deserves something better. Because this municipality can't be held hostage by those who don't know how, can't, or won't govern. The question is no longer whether there will be change. It's when the rotten smell in this city hall will stop.
