Residents and visitors of Puerto Rico, in southern Gran Canaria, can now enjoy a completely renovated staircase connecting Avenida de Gran Canaria with Calle Tomás Roca Bosch. The recently completed project significantly improves accessibility in one of the town's most important tourist spots.
The stairs, which provide access to numerous tourist complexes, were in a state of significant deterioration due to their age. The renovation, promoted by the Mogán City Council and financed by the Canary Islands Government through Next Generation EU funds, has modernized both the infrastructure and the urban environment. The project not only focused on the stairs but also included the renovation of the sanitation, stormwater, water supply, public lighting, and telephone networks.
In addition to the functional improvements, the area has undergone a visual transformation. The adjacent gardens have been expanded, and vegetation requiring less water has been introduced, contributing to more sustainable management. With this project, Puerto Rico modernizes one of its key urban connections, improving the experience for the thousands of tourists and residents who pass through the area.
During the recent institutional visit, the mayor of Mogán, Onalia Bueno, and the director general of Infrastructure, Sustainability, and Tourism Quality of the Canary Islands Government, Héctor Mateo, highlighted the good pace of construction, the use of appropriate materials, and proper maintenance planning.
