Tirajana and Pesca plan to expand the Romeral Castle Brotherhood

The Director General of Fisheries of the Canary Islands Government informs the mayor that the dredging of the Castillo dock "will be carried out by Puertos Canarios during the remainder of the year."

The mayor of San Bartolomé de Tirajana, Marco Aurelio Pérez Sánchez, and the Director General of Fisheries of the Canary Islands Government, Esteban Reyes Hernández, met this Wednesday in Maspalomas to seek a solution for the expansion project of the Castillo del Romeral Fishermen's Association and to address the dredging situation at the fishing port. Councilor Araceli Armas Cruz also participated in the meeting, as the Councilor for Fisheries.

The project's objective is to adapt the Guild to provide the owners and skippers of the Castillo fishing boats with a dry dock area where they can easily carry out the manufacturing and repair of their traps and other fishing gear.

Given that the grant of more than €100.000 allocated to this project by the Gran Canaria Island Council's Primary Sector Department must be spent before the end of the year, Mayor Marco Aurelio Pérez and Councilor Araceli Armas are considering studying the adaptation and expansion of the Brotherhood's inner courtyard, creating a direct access. The Director General expressed his gratitude for this proposal and informed the municipal leaders that his department's technicians will study the possibilities of its implementation.

On another note, Esteban Reyes informed the mayor and the Councilor for Fisheries that the dredging of the port, so highly requested by the fishermen of El Castillo, is already underway. "The project has been approved and will be carried out by Puertos Canarios, which is already conducting bathymetric studies to quantify and specify the dredging costs." The Director General of Fisheries informed the mayor that "the intention is for the work to be carried out during the remainder of the year," and stated that the decision has already been communicated to the leaders of the local guild.
