Disability rights activist Tanzila Khan has left her mark on the Lopesan Costa Meloneras Resort & Spa. After an exhaustive audit, led by her and her Triple Impact Hospitality team, the hotel has been recognized as a benchmark for accessibility, not only for its facilities but also for the willingness and commitment of its staff. She has requested the creation of a project to improve signage and wayfinding throughout the hotel.
The evaluation, which spanned five days, focused on the actual guest experience. Khan and her team stayed at the resort to analyze every detail, from the common areas to the spa and pools. The results were beyond expectations, with special mention given to the staff's attitude. As Tanzila herself stated, she felt "as if the barriers had disappeared" during her stay.
The report highlights several of the hotel's strengths. The Deluxe Accessible Rooms received one of the highest scores, being praised for features such as bed height, wardrobe rails, and air conditioning controls, all designed to facilitate independence. Tanzila Khan emphasized that the bathrooms, designed in the style of the rest of the hotel, do not make "guests with limited mobility" feel different.
The activist also praised the attention paid to the restaurant areas, where guests can reserve a table in advance and receive specific assistance for wheelchair users. The spaciousness of the lobby and the lower reception desk were also valued as key aspects for a welcoming and inclusive experience. Tanzila Khan's work not only served to highlight the hotel's successes but also to point out a path for improvement. In a meeting with Lopesan Hotel Group management, a roadmap was agreed upon that includes: The creation of a dedicated accessibility section on the website lopesan.com and improve the visibility of accessible rooms in the online booking process. In its conclusions, the audit acknowledges that the Lopesan Costa Meloneras already offers exceptional inclusive services. However, thanks to the recommendations of Tanzila Khan and her team, the hotel has committed to going a step further to become a leading accessible hospitality destination in Europe.
