More than 70 artisans turn the Gran Canaria Verano Sur Craft Fair into a showcase of talent and tradition.

Maspalomas24h Saturday, August 09, 2025

The Fair, which starts today near the Maspalomas Lighthouse, will remain open until August 17, from 17:00 p.m. to 23:00 p.m.

As in previous editions, the fair will feature live craft exhibits and live concerts that will enrich the visit of locals and tourists.

The Gran Canaria Verano Sur Craft Fair kicked off today with the presence of 73 artisans from 16 municipalities across the island, who have ten days ahead of them to showcase and market their handmade items.

Organized by Infecar, Feria de Gran Canaria, the 18th edition of this fair returns to the vicinity of the Maspalomas Lighthouse, a strategic location that allows both tourists and island residents vacationing in the area to enjoy a selection of Gran Canaria's artisan crafts, as emphasized this afternoon at the opening by Teodoro Sosa, the Councilor for the Presidency and Sustainable Mobility of the Cabildo.

Along these lines, the Councilor for Economic Development, Industry, Commerce, and Crafts of the Gran Canaria Island Council, Minerva Alonso, emphasized on the occasion of the opening of the summer event that it is "a space where artisans from Gran Canaria, from 21 different trades, will be present, and this turns the Maspalomas Lighthouse area into a space of culture and identity, and above all, of support for the island's artisan sector."

Carpentry, ceramics, candle making, blacksmithing, toy making, jewelry… until August 17, visitors can learn about and purchase items from artisans representing this wide variety of trades practiced on the island, four of them traditional (blacksmithing, forging and locksmithing, wood turning, traditional carpentry, and fabric decoration).

Regarding their origins, the artisans participating in this 18th edition of the fair come from various municipalities across the island, with the capital of Gran Canaria being the most represented, with 26 professionals, followed by Agüimes, with nine, and Telde, with six. San Bartolomé de Tirajana and Ingenio contribute five and four professionals, respectively, while Valsequillo, Santa Brígida, Firgas, and Arucas will each bring three artisans to the fair; Teror, Santa Lucía, Moya, and Agaete will do the same with two; and the municipalities of Santa María de Guía, Gáldar, and Mogán are participating, this time, with one professional.

In addition to the exhibition, each day in the "Live Crafts" space, visitors can enjoy live demonstrations of some of the most representative crafts, such as wool spinning, lace weaving, felting, rush basketry, pottery, embroidery, rye basketry, cutlery, and stonework.

On the weekend afternoons of the fair, visitors to the three tents that make up this exhibition can also enjoy various musical performances: following the concert by the Canarian music group Asentaos y Tumbaos held on the first Friday of the fair, on Saturday, August 9th, it will be the turn of the Cuban music trio led by Kevin Carvallo, who will liven up the day starting at 18.30:15 p.m. For the second weekend of the fair, the guitar and vocal duo composed of Zaida Jiménez and Juan Sebastián Ramírez will perform on Friday, August 16th; and the folk trio of Alberto González, Iván Quintana, and Juan Sebastián Ramírez will perform on Saturday, August 20.00th. Both performances will take place at XNUMX:XNUMX p.m.

The Gran Canaria Verano Sur Craft Fair, which will be open from 17.00:23.00 p.m. to XNUMX:XNUMX p.m., is the ideal opportunity for artisans to showcase their work and the quality of their products, which they can also sell after months of painstaking work.

In this sense, the event has established itself in recent years as a showcase for the island's handmade work and a platform for selling quality artisan work. It's also a space for disseminating the region's traditions and artisan heritage, which are increasingly valued by the local public.

On the official website of the event (www.feriasartesaniagrancanaria.es) The list of artisans who will participate in this edition of the fair has now been published, as well as the schedules and the protagonists of the live craft exhibitions and concerts.

Promoted and funded by the Gran Canaria Island Council through the Fund for Ethnography and the Development of Canarian Crafts (Fedac), an agency attached to the Ministry of Economic Development, Industry, Commerce and Crafts, the Verano Sur Crafts Fair is organized by Infecar, Feria de Gran Canaria, in collaboration with the San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council.
