A woman in critical condition was rescued after suffering cardiac arrest on San Agustín beach.

A swift intervention by lifeguards and the Canary Islands Emergency Service allowed the swimmer to regain vital signs before being taken to the hospital. The incident occurred on Friday afternoon in southern Gran Canaria.

 

A 60-year-old woman is in serious condition after being rescued this Friday, August 8, 2025, at San Agustín beach, in the municipality of San Bartolomé de Tirajana, after suffering a cardiac arrest while swimming. The incident occurred at 18:31 p.m. and immediately mobilized emergency resources.

 

According to the Emergency and Safety Coordination Center (CECOES) 1-1-2, lifeguards in the area detected that the victim was unresponsive in the water and proceeded to pull her to shore, beginning cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). Medical personnel from the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC), deployed in a medically equipped ambulance, continued providing advanced care, successfully reversing the cardiac arrest. After stabilizing her, the woman was transferred to the Gran Canaria University Hospital.

 

The operation involved lifeguards from the beach surveillance service, local police officers, and the SUC (National Unit of Unity) who collaborated to ensure a swift and coordinated response. Local authorities have initiated an investigation into the incident.
